India’s rich and diverse culture holds the thread to its unity. India’s various art forms which evolved over thousands of years are not only a reflection of the diverse culture of this land but also a source of spiritual inspiration. They have enriched this nation for thousands of years but are quickly becoming a forgotten dimension of our life. In an endeavor to preserve and promote the uniqueness, purity and diversity of the country’s performing arts, Isha Foundation annually hosts Yaksha, a 3 day festival of classical Indian music and dance, amidst the sacred space of the Dhyanalinga located at the verdant foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains. The name of the festival is inspired by Yakshas – celestial beings in Indian mythology. Yaksha provides a common platform for the artistes to perform and connoisseurs to see and appreciate these ancient arts performed by masters as well as novices. These performances will be conducted against the backdrop of the Linga Bhairavi and the Dhyanalinga at the Isha Yoga Center. Artistic presentations, in their subtlety and vibrancy, evoke the profoundness and depth inherent in India’s ancient culture and provide an opportunity for people from across the world to discover and experience the beauty of these art forms. Each night will feature concerts by some of India’s greatest artistes. Set amidst the scenic and powerful space of the Dhyanalinga Complex, this year’s ensemble of performances include Carnatic, Hindustani music and Bharatanatyam.
