Cauvery Calling Campaign will support farmers to plant 242 Cr trees to revitalize River Cauvery.
Till June 2024, Cauvery Calling has supported over 218,000 farmers and enabled plantation of 109 million living trees (with 4-5 million more trees to be planted in coming 4 months).
Cauvery Calling’s vision is to support 5.2 million farmers to plant 2.42 billion trees. This will lead to a 12 trillion liters increase in water holding capacity in Cauvery basin, increase water flow in Cauvery by 40%, infuse over 322 billion USD in the rural economy, and sequester 200-300 million tons of CO2 by 2030 – equivalent to 8-12% of India’s target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 under the Paris Agreement.
Several United Nations and international bodies such as UN Environment, UNCCD, and IUCN have recognized Cauvery Calling’s impact and its potential to be replicated across the tropical world and have inducted Cauvery Calling in various global forums.
